| All New! The
Audiomagus SubLine™ II is the only passive speaker-level to
line-level
converter designed specifically for Class-T
amplifiers.
Most plate amps for subs have a common ground for the speaker
inputs. (To be sure you need the SubLine, just check the channel
grounds with meter.) The Trends
TA-10 and the Sonic Impact amps are bridged and the grounds are not
common. They are also 5V above ground. Until now, the Left and Right
channels could not be connected to each other or to chassis ground
— or to a powered subwoofer.
Using the SubLine™II, just connect the Left and Right
speakers as
usual. Then connect the SubLine™ to same speaker terminals
(as though it
was another pair of speakers). Now connect the output of the
SubLine™ to
the subwoofer's amplifier via RCA cables and you have both stereo
channels feeding into the subwoofer.
The SubLine™ II is housed in a durable black-anodized
extruded
aluminum case with nonslip feet. RCA connectors are high-quality
Vampire CM-HEX, made of solid brass plated with copper then silver then
gold. The heavy Dayton Gold 5-way binding posts are machined brass and
gold plated to resist corrosion.
From
Michael Mardis:
"The
SubLine is a circuit (actually 2 circuits) in a nice box with good
quality connectors that allows you to connect your Trends or other
T-Amp to the line level inputs of a subwoofer amplifier.
It's a "speaker to
line level adapter." These sort of adapters have been on the audio
market for many decades, you'll find them around the Internet. Many are
made for car sound. All that I've found cost as much or more than than
the SubLine and they aren't nearly as nice!
So what makes the
SubLine different, other than its charming good looks? It is designed
especially for the Trends amp - and that's very important.
The Trends amp and
all other small T-Amps can NOT have the negative speaker terminals tied
to ground. Unlike most amps, they are not at ground potential. In fact,
they are about 6 volts DC above ground. No problem connecting a
speaker, because the speaker is not electrically connected to signal
ground. But another amp will be connected to signal ground. So the
speaker outputs of the Trends can not be directly connected to an input
with grounds, as found in almost all amps.
The SubLine
isolates the speaker connections from ground - and it lowers the output
level to be compatible with a line level RCA input.
Other speaker to
line level adapters will lower the level, but they do not isolate the
grounds. That would not be good news for your T-amp. It just wouldn't
work. You could damage one or both amps - the Trends and your sub amp.
Some other adapters
'may'isolate ground, but you can't tell just by looking. And they
almost certainly don't block the DC offset. The SubLine does all that
and is designed with the levels of the Trends amp in mind.
A long story, but
it tells you what and why about the SubLine."
