Description

New! Version 10.1 is updated with a USB Type B socket (No more searching for cords that fit!)

Give your PC a full range of digital possibilities and connect your computer to via a DAC your Hi-Fi or Home Cinema system... quickly, easily, and with audiophile sound quality! The UD-10 USB Audio Transport includes balanced digital  AES/EBU (110 Ohm via XLR), S/PDIF (75 Ohm via RCA or BNC), TOSlink optical, and USB input. All for only $149!

Use The Trends UD-10 for:

  • Audiophile USB Transport (provide a digital interface to connect to your own DAC)
  • External USB sound card for PC and Mac
  • PC/Mac USB Headphone Amplifier

Packed with top-grade parts and engineered to provide the very best sound, the UD-10 effectively isolates the audio signal from interference from within the PC case, e.g. high-frequency data signals, switching-mode power supply, fan motors, etc. Thanks to the  the high accuracy clock and the sophisticated digital output circuit, UD-10 makes your PC to behave as a high-end CD transport to work with an external DAC.

Proprietary impedance matching circuits for AES/EBU (110Ω) and Coaxial (75Ω) digital outputs apply specially designed pulse transformers for each AES/EBU and Coaxial output. The most pure, accurate, standard digital signal is then regenerated with minimum interference and jitter.

  • Plug-&-play for PC and Mac
  • High-end Burr Brown DAC for USB audio conversion
  • Unique digital outputs (optical x1, coaxial x2 (RCA & BNC), AES/EBU x1)
  • Proprietary dual power regulation circuits design
  • Separate digital/analog grounds to reduce interference between digital and analog signals
  • High-accuracy crystal clock (±10ppm)
  • Applied RS422 driving IC to concurrently drive 4 groups of balanced & non-balanced digital outputs
  • Proprietary impedance matching circuits for AES/EBU(110Ω), Coaxial (75Ω) digital outputs
  • Specially designed pulse transformers for each AES/EBU and Coaxial outputs
  • USB Connecting cable and 3.5mm to phono adaptor included
  • Plug-and-play without driver installation for PC (Windows 2000, Windows XP and VISTA) and Mac OS X operating systems

Digital-to-analog conversion is accomplished with the aid of the Burr Brown PCM2704. Other circuit details include dual power regulation circuits, separate digital/analog grounds, highly accurate crystal clock (±10ppm), transformers for each AES/EBU and coaxial outputs to isolate interference. While the UD-10 can be powered by the USB, we heartily recommend the optional external power pack for best performance. (AA size rechargeable battery 1.2V x4=5V. Do not use normal batteries with 1.2V x4=6V.)

From TNT "... a look at the specification of the UD-10 makes me wonder how they do it for the price! The casing is well made from aluminum, with a good range of connectors. Would you believe; there are no less than four digital connectors (optical x1, coaxial x2 (RCA and BNC), AES/EBU x1) should you wish to use your own DAC with the UD-10 instead of the built in DAC! Inside we find Sanyo Oscon, and Elna Silmic capacitors, and a Burr Brown PCM2704 DAC chip. There is no doubting that the UD-10 has been built with sound quality in mind, rather than being designed to sell at a huge profit!"

UD-10.1 with Paradisea+ NOS DAC June 5, 2008
Reviewer: Richard from Saint Michaels, MD United States
I ordered a UD-10.1 to be able to connect my HT amplifier directly to my laptop and external HD. The amp has an oversampling 24/96 DAC that I wanted to hear with my files. It worked as expected and sounds very good. The surprise came when I used the transport connected to my Paradisea+ NOS tube DAC. I had been using the native USB port on the DAC. Using the UD-10.1 in between laptop and DAC, the sound via SPDIF input was dramatically improved. I am not sure why, but the improvement was welcome and a real surprise. Thanks Mike! Keep the great products coming.
